Proper reversal of the winterization process not only prepares a home for occupancy but also serves to ensure that all utilities are in working order and that there are no water leaks or other winter damages. De-winterization is most often performed in the Spring after temperatures have risen above freezing, but this can be done at any time in preparation for the home’s occupants or for a Pre-Sale Home Inspection. The standard fee for De-Winterization services is $175.
The process of De-Winterization is a thorough reversal of the original Winterization. First, all the open water supply sources such as faucets are turned off, and then water supply is restored by turning back on the main water shut-off valve. At this point, each water supply source is then turned on one at a time and checked for leaks. The hot water tank is refilled, and then our technician will light the hot water heater for you if it is gas powered or turn on the correct breaker in the panel box if it is an electric water heater, and then check to ensure that water is heating properly.
If any water leaks are discovered or the hot water heater isn’t functioning as it should, water supply will be immediately turned back off and the homeowner or property manager will be notified and an estimated provided for repair.
